Omar Serna-Polanco, 31, of Mexico, is under federal custody for re-entry of an aggravated felon, said Andrea Zortman, a spokeswoman for the Border Patrol's Tucson sector.
Serna-Polanco crossed the border illegally Sept. 25 just west of Douglas. He climbed over the landing mat fence and ran north.
Agents caught him and transported him to the station, where his biometric data was entered into the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System.
His data revealed that he had been convicted in 1997 in New Mexico of sexual offenses of the third degree and was sentenced to three years in prison.
He was removed from the United States in 1998 subsequent to his conviction.
The Tucson sector has arrested over 13,000 illegal immigrants with criminal records in the United States. Of that number, over 170 were for sexual offenses.
