Whether it's the police officers, the detectives, the secretaries or the dispatchers, each part becomes a whole in its effort to make this city better.
But often times they go unnoticed for their efforts and valor that they contribute to the community.
As a result the Douglas Police Department recognized these hard-working members of the department with a plaque or certificate.
On Thursday the department gave recognition to the Employees of the Year.
Each person honored with the Employee of the Year distinction was selected by his or hers co-workers in their department. They looked for dedication to their job, willingness to help others and a duty to their community.
The event began with a lavish lunch in the conference room at the department.
Afterwards, police chief Charles Austin presented the awards.
The Employees of the Year are:
€ Patrol Officer William Henn.
€ Officer Gilbert Aguilar, of the Patrol Division.
€ Detective Ben Stevens, of Investigations.
€ Claudia Perez, of Support Division.
José Duarte, Tanya Duarte, and their team of police explorers received a commendation for their efforts in helping an elderly Douglas resident clean and renovate the exterior of her home. The woman was physically incapable of doing the work. The Duartes and explorers used their own resources to do the job.
