The Cochise Area Reading Council recently participated in a Community Read Challenge sponsored by the Reading Is Fundamental Program.

For two weeks in January, volunteer story readers went to RIF classrooms at Stevenson, Faras and Joe Carlson Schools. The volunteers read to encourage the children to enjoy reading and to model how much the adults value reading. A variety of stories were read and the students wrote thanky you notes to their guests.

The Council wishes to thank the school administration for their support and participation in this event. Thank you to the participating readers who include: Gail Zamar, Karen Nicodemus, Eleanor Salazar, David Bond, Karen Smith, Mr. Huddleston, Mr. Valenzuela, Margurite Connors, Claudia Steele-Rose, Glenda Bavier, Ann McCleve, Danny Ortega, and Steven Fos.

Also, Marina Montano, Richard Shemanski, Sally John, Joan Reichel, Frank Rivera, David Machado, Jarrie Trent, Margo Macartney, Jody Pirtle, Linda Kleck, Natalio Sabal, Maria Campoy, Michelle Campoy, Michelle Valasquez, Luis Ortega, Cynthia Gomez and Arlette Molinar.

"The Council was delighted with the success of the project and hopes to sponsor it again. Thanks also to those who worked behind the scenes to help things proceed smoothly. It takes a lot of coordinated effort to make this event happen. More volunteers are always appreciated," sai Joan Reichel
