The city is looking for a new motto, and they want your help.
At the City of Douglas and Douglas Chamber of Commerce image meeting on Thursday, June 30, it decided to go forward with a new motto contest for the Douglas community.
"This is a grassroots effort to get community input in adopting a new motto or slogan which will express and help to promote a positive, supportive, and optimistic image for our community," said city manager Mike Ortega.
A committee of volunteers - Sandy Crespin, Ulysses Duronslet, Donna Campbell and Chuck Hoyack -have put together a plan for the contest which is as follows:
* The motto should express the principles, goals and ideals of Douglas and the surrounding community.
* All entries should be four to eight words and must include the word "Douglas" in the entry. One may enter as many times as they would like.
Entry deadline is July 25, and they may be dropped off at Douglas City Hall, Douglas Library, Daily Dispatch, Douglas Visitors Center, Associated Agencies or online at publisher@douglasdispatch.com.
The entry form can be found in those locations or in the newspaper several times over the next two weeks.
First prize is a family fun package to the Cochise County Fair (September 22-25) and a $100 cash prize. The winner will be selected the first week of August and unveiled at the Cochise County Fair.
