Louis Edward Pope, Sr.

Born March 21, 1921 to John Berryman Pope and Elizabeth Vorhees Pope in Douglas, Arizona where he lived his entire life. He peacefully passed away July 18, 2005 after a very short stay at the Veterans Hospital dealing with lung failure.


He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marion Pope; and three sons, Louie Jr. and his wife Susan, Ralph and his wife Jackie and Don and his wife Mary; one grandson, Louis Edward Pope III (Ed) and his wife Kami; two granddaughters Kathy Hall and her husband David and Kimberly Pope.

He was preceded in death by his brother John (JB) and sister Elma Pengelly.

Louis served in the Army Air Corp during WWII in the Pacific as a propeller specialist on B24's. He worked for Southern Arizona Auto Company following the war. He then went to work for the State of Arizona Highway Department in Douglas where he retired.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1501 10th Street, at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Tim Poetter officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to your favorite children's charity. Pallbearers will be Rob Krentz, Phil Krentz, Frank Hedger, Ray Young, George McBride and George Wangelin.

Brown Page Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
