Area fifth graders will attend Drug Awareness program tomorrow

Hundreds of fifth grade students will crowd Eighth Street Park Friday morning to attend a Drug Awareness Day program.

The event, which starts at 9 a.m., is sponsored by the Douglas Elks Lodge, BPOE #955, and will feature helicopters from Customs and Lifeline Emergency Services along with the K-9 unit from Border Patrol.

Agencies participating include the Douglas Fire Department, Cochise County Sheriff's Office, Department of Public Safety, Lifeline, U.S. Customs, Juvenile Probation, Douglas Police Department, Adult Probation and the U.S. Border Patrol.

Other participants include the City of Douglas, Douglas Unified School District, Douglas High School Med Club and APS.

The guest speaker for the event is David Butler, who will speak at 9:20 a.m.

After the talk, students will have an opportunity to visit booths from the various agencies. Upon entry, they will also receive a goody bag from the Elks Lodge.
