The Douglas City Council passed a resolution opposing the proposed additional border fence.

"It would displace many people on both sides of the border," said Mayor Ray Borane, who had introduced the resolution.

The fence would be extended from the Douglas Municipal Airport to Whitewater Draw.

"Complex issues of illegal immigration can not be fixed with enforcement only approach," Borane said.

In other action the council approved:

ˆ Ordinance 06-446, which authorized supporting Cochise County's Housing Authority in its submission of an application for a "healthy homes lead-based hazard control grant program" and committing future allocation of community development block grant funds as matching funds.

ˆ Approved allowing the use of the Copper King Stadium by International Baseball Foundation Inc. on June 22 and July 1, 2006.

ˆ An ordinance relating to the privilege license tax and adopting the "The 2006 Amendments to the Tax Code of The City of Douglas."

ˆ A resolution declaring as a public record a document filed by the city titled, "The 2006 Amendments to the Tax Code of the City of Douglas."

ˆ A resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into a renewal agreement between the American Heart Association, Inc and the Douglas Fire Department to conduct basic life support training courses under set guidelines and curriculum of AHA.
