A Douglas man was arrested in connection with an attempted armed robbery.

Ivan Cornejo Noriega, 27, was transported to the Cochise County Jail, where he awaits arraignment. On Oct. 25 Noriega was on a bicycle when he approached two juveniles. He told one of them that he wanted the sliver chain and crucifix that he was wearing, said Marcus Gonzales, the public information officer for The City of Douglas.

The juvenile said no and continued to walk home. At 16th Street and A Avenue, Noriega pulled out a knife and stopped the juvenile. He ordered him to give Noriega the chain or else he would stab them, Gonzales said. The juvenile ran home and Noriega rode away westbound on 16th Street, Gonzales said.

Later, police found that Noriega had an outstanding warrant. Witnesses of the attempted robbery identified Noriega in a police line-up.

Noriega was charged with attempted armed robbery.
