Community Foundation Week celebrates giving in Cochise County
Cochise Community Foundation (CCF) will join more than 700 community foundations across the country for Community Foundation Week, November 12-18, to celebrate local charitable giving.
"Community foundations link resources to needs in our community," said Carol Sanger, CCF chairwoman. "Here at Cochise Community Foundation donors invest in the causes they care about most. They create personal legacies, gifts that keep giving, year after year."
With assets of approximately $39 billion, community foundations are one of the fastest growing sectors of philanthropy in the United States today. In 2004, donors gave U.S.-based community foundations more than $3.2 billion in gifts.
"Donors of all kinds find that community foundations are an ideal vehicle for their philanthropy, offering people the opportunity to give back to the community," said Steve Gunderson, president and CEO of the Council on Foundations. "Their strength and ingenuity have put them in financial positions that better serve their communities."
There are over 1800 community foundations throughout the nation. Donors at all income levels are assured that their contributions are dedicated according to their wishes.
People can get involved by establishing a fund with their local community foundation, serving on a committee or volunteering with an agency the foundation supports.
Community Foundation Week began in 1989 with a proclamation from former President George H.W. Bush and a congressional briefing on community foundation activities.
The observance has raised awareness of community foundations' charitable activities and services to donors seeking to maximize their philanthropic dollars.
The Cochise Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Arizona Community Foundation, helps Cochise communities be the best places in Arizona to live, learn, work and raise a family.
We do this by linking donors with local needs, helping them find the financial structure that works for them; by supporting local organizations through grants and training; and by providing civic leadership to enhance quality of life.
