As the U.S. Postal Service and shipping companies gear up for their busiest month, customers are being advised to follow some guidelines to get them through the holidays with as little stress as possible - at least when it comes to sending those parcels.

Although companies such as The UPS Store offer the same "shop and send early" advice every year, thousands of people still wait until the last minute before heading off to the stores.
According to the U.S. Postal Service, the busiest mailing day is expected to be Dec. 18, when more than 280 million cards and letters will be processed.
Around 12 million packages will be delivered every day from now until Christmas Eve, with the busiest delivery day being Dec. 20.
One of the best ways to ensure a smooth sending off of those precious Christmas gifts is to have it wrapped and packaged correctly before you get to the mailing process, Berns said.
