BISBEE - Ten different organizations that provide transportation assistance for the elderly, disabled and poor and have applied for the county's share of state local transportation assistance funding attended a work session with the Cochise County Board of Supervisors Tuesday afternoon to see what sum would be granted.

€ City of Bisbee, $23,725
€ Catholic Community Services, $50,000
€ Cochise County Association of the Handicapped, $20,996
€ Colors of Success, $15,000
€ Douglas Association of Retarded Citizens, $25,400
€ Happytimes Children's Center, $18,562.50
€ City of Sierra Vista, Southeastern Arizona Consumer-Run Services, $7,593.75
€ Volunteer Interfaith Caregiver Program, $4,914
€ And Wynne Chapel, $3,000.
The requests totaled $215,764, but the county received only $154,310, making a $61,454 shortfall.
With no other money in the budget to make up the difference, Patty Lewis, the county's grant administrator, came up with five different disbursement possibilities that would allow the county to contribute to all the applicants.
Lewis provided the board members with an overview of how much each organization had requested, how much each had received from other funding sources and how much money was left over at year's end.
In the disbursement formula, some organizations were cut slightly to accommodate funding others based on how much funding was left over from last year.
The city of Bisbee led the groups in leftover funds with $25,165, though Lewis said that figure would be reduced to just more than $5,000.
That each organization is worthy of support is evident by the work they do for the county's residents, the supervisors agreed.
In the end, the board members seemed to go for the disbursement process that granted
€ $10,237 to Bisbee
€ $28,000 to CCS
€ $20,000 to CCAH
€ $10,000 to Colors of Success
€ $20,000 to DARC
€ $11,000 to Happytimes Children's Center
€ $30,000 to Sierra Vista
€ $6,000 to SEACRS; $4,500 to VICaP
€ And $3,000 to Wynne Chapel.
The supervisors will vote on the matter at a future meeting.
The state LTAF funds come from lottery ticket sales.
