A Douglas man and his dog were found dead in an empty lot Friday morning. Both the man and the dog had a gunshot wound to their heads.

The 51-year-old man, whose name was not released by Douglas police, was found by a passer-by in a lot southeast of Food City, said Marcus Gonzales, the public information officer for the Douglas Police Department.

At about 9: 29 a.m. police cordoned off the lot.

A Glock .40 caliber handgun was found between the dog and the man, Gonzales said.

Police are investigating the incident as a homicide, although suicide is suspected, Gonzales said.
