Portal Rescue Soup kitchen set for Feb. 5, 6, 7

The eleventh annual Portal Rescue Soup Kitchen Fund-raiser will be held next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (February 5, 6, and 7) from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Portal Rescue Classroom in Portal. The $5.00 meal includes two savory soups, two delectable breads, a dessert, and a beverage. All proceeds go to Portal Rescue, the area's volunteer fire and rescue service.


Fabulous prizes will be raffled at this event.

This year they include a one-hour scenic plane ride (or one flight lesson) with Chamberlain Aviation, "Be a Star" tour of the night sky for two with Jack Newton (Learn how to use a specialized astronomy camera & operate Jack's telescope to take your own astronomy images. Get a CD-ROM of your own work. No experience needed), Vortex Spitfire 8X25 binoculars (close focus 5 ft., weight 10 oz. water & fog proof), a relaxing therapeutic massage by Danielle, a $50.00 gift card from Valley Mercantile and a tool bag full of goodies from Valley Mercantile.

Also, $100 worth of Arizona Scratch Lottery tickets and two cat or dog exams and vaccinations by Dr. Michael John of Douglas. Local artists' donations include a carving of a roadrunner by Bill Reinbold, a print by Dave Utterback, a print by Roger McKasson, and a necklace by Chris Rogers. You also have a chance to win a Let's Eat Out prize that includes a breakfast for two at the Rodeo Cafe, lunch for two at the Portal Store and Cafe, and dinner for two at the Rodeo Tavern. Tickets are available at the door for only $1.00 each. The drawing will take place on Wednesday, February 7th, at 1:00 p.m. You need not be present to win.

The Chiricahua Community Health Center will be there, offering free blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol checks.
