Rachel White of Birmingham, Ala., recently contacted me to help her find a person in her city who teaches "coupon-saving classes." If you know of anyone in Rachel's area who teaches coupon or grocery-saving classes, please send me a message so I can share that information with Rachel.

Rachel, if you are listening to Dave Ramsey and have taken his Financial Peace University, you are definitely on the right track! Your savings intentions are in the right place, so now all you have to do is learn grocery saving strategies. Although you could attend a seminar, I did an online search of "grocery saving seminars" and unfortunately did not come up with any answers for Birmingham, Ala. The seminars I did find in other parts of the country cost $30 to $40 per seminar plus additional costs of required workbooks and coupon organizers.
Fortunately, there are many online tutorials, articles and discussion groups about grocery savings. I have also saved thousands of dollars over the years with my $3 coupon organizer that I purchased at the grocery store (it's a check organizer). You do not need to buy expensive coupon-organizing systems to save money on groceries.
You can try using an online search engine to search for information on relevant topics, such as "grocery savings, grocery coupons, budgeting" and more. One of my favorite Web sites, www.stretcher.com, is a wonderful library of savings articles on virtually every subject. Simply go to the Grocery section to find many useful articles written by various experts using different approaches. Online resources are convenient and are absolutely free! And you won't spend any gas money driving to a seminar.
Another alternative is to buy a grocery-savings book, which would cost far less than one of the seminar sessions I found. You can search for the most current grocery-savings books online, or you could consider reading my book, "Greatest Secrets of the Coupon Mom" published in October 2005 by DPL Press. It is a step-by-step guide to "Strategic Shopping" and will certainly help you cut your grocery bill. It sells at a discount at Amazon.com and can be checked out from the library at no cost. If your library doesn't carry it, you can request that they order it.
Another option is to print one of the free 10-page electronic books I have written on the topic of grocery savings, available at my Web site http://www.couponmom.com. Book One, "Cut Your Grocery Bill in Half" covers the basics of smart grocery shopping using the Coupon Mom System. In fact, many readers of this column have used this electronic book as a handout to use in teaching friends and relatives how to save on groceries, as well as using the handout to teach classes. The title of my new electronic book, Book Two, "Advanced Grocery Saving Strategies" speaks for itself. Be sure to read them in order so you are not overwhelmed!
Once Rachel has read all of the great, up-to-date information available on grocery saving strategies, she will probably be able to start her own coupon class in Birmingham. And if she does, I'd like to publicize it here to help other readers. Keep me posted!
