Qualified property owners wanting to apply for a 2007 property tax exemption as a Widow, Widower, or as an individual with a 100% Permanent Disability may file for the tax exemption with the Cochise County Assessor by March 1.

Individuals and certain non-profit organizations may apply for and be granted partial or full property tax exempt status on their property tax provided they meet statutory income and valuation limits and qualifying requirements. Qualifying requirements are:

Personal income limit $26,523 (no dependents), $31,827 (with dependents). Income limits exclude social security and veteran's disability.

Total property "assessed value" limit $21,628.

Widow/Widower - AZ resident at time of spouses' death.

"Not for profit" organization as defined under ARS 42-11101 -42-11133.

An annual "exemption affidavit" must be filed with the Assessor to claim exempt status. A physician signed "Certification of Disability" must be filed along with the exemption affidavit when filing for a 100% disability exemption for the first time. Affidavit forms may be obtained at the County Assessor's Office or by calling (520) 432-8650 or via e-mail request at "assessor@co.cochise.az.us". Filing deadline is MARCH 1.

Property owners 65 years of age or older may also qualify for the "Senior Property Valuation Freeze Option". This option freezes the property valuation of the primary residence for 3 years and may be renewed every three years. Filing deadline is September 1. Contact the County Assessor's Office for more information.
