The Agua Prieta Chief of Police was shot and killed as he left his office Monday afternoon.

Ramon Tacho Verdugo was hit by three bullets at about 5p.m. on Calle 17, Avenida 6, which is near the police station.

The shooters were not caught. Authorities later found a weapon inside a black vehicle. Police are still searching for the suspects.

More than nine months ago, on May 9, 2006, the father of former Agua Prieta mayor, David Figueroa, was shot as he drove home.

The mayor's father was not killed but several bullets ripped through his arms and chest.

The suspects were never found.
