Based on an anonymous tip, two men were arrested Monday in Pirtleville in connection with auto theft.

Sergio Gabriel Duarte-Batista, 20, of 757 Third Street, and Jason Paul Vasquez, 29, with an unknown address, were transported to the Cochise County Jail in Bisbee.

When police arrived at 626 Irvine Avenue in Pirtleville, they saw a 2002 Ford F-250 on the property.

Batista, who was in the truck, was arrested; Vasquez, however, ran into the home, where he barricaded himself for about 20 minutes, said Marcus Gonzales, the spokesman for the Douglas Police Department.

The truck had been stolen out of Phoenix. Detectives served a search warrant and found $8,000 to $10,000 of construction equipment at the home, Gonzales said.

Police discovered that Vasquez had stolen the truck from Phoenix and drove it to Pirtleville.

Both men were arrested for theft of means of transportation, Gonzales said.

Vasquez is being held on a $5,000 bond; Batista is being held on an $8,000 bond.
