Douglas' track coach Ron Ellsworth said afterwards he was pleasantly surprised to see his team beat Salpointe.
The Bulldogs have beaten the Lancers before but it's been a while and with the Salpointe reputation any win over a program from that school is good.
Ellsworth said going into the meet he and Coach David Bond moved some runners around trying to break up Salpointe's numbers in some of the events. That move paid off in the distances, the throws, the pole vault and the hurdlers.
"This was a good win for our program," he would say. "We didn't allow them to pull away from us."
The coach said there were some improved marks in many of the events Wednesday and he hopes that carries over to Friday's Douglas Invitational track meet which begins at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas High School.
