Lady tracksters second in tri-meet

The Douglas Lady Bulldogs were back on the track Wednesday running against Amphi and Salpointe in a triangular meet at Douglas High School.


Salpointe won the meet with 84 points. Douglas followed with 52 and Amphi had 31.

Senior Nancy Linares won the 400-meters posting a time of one-minute, five seconds. She was also second in the 200-meters turning in a time of 29.47 while Rachel Penix and Adeley Hunt tied for third with a time of 31.39.

Linares placed third in the high jump with a jump of four-feet, six inches while in the triple jump she came in first with a 30'7".

Sonia Allen, Penix and Jeanette Valdez were second, third and fourth respectively turning in jumps of 25'11", 25'7" and 22'10".

Brianna Salazar placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 23.7 seconds and was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a 1:03.

Freshman Kristi Cormier placed second in the 3200-meters with a 13:43 and was third in the 1600 with a 6:16.

Johanna Urquijo came in third in the 800-meters finishing with a time of 2:48.

In the shot put Erica McGrew was third with a 27'3" and Yessenia Davidson fourth with a 23'3.

McGrew was also third in the discus with a 71'7" and Kim Fragoso fourth with a 65'3".

In the pole vault Priscilla Enriquez was second at 6'6 and Aileen Moreno fourth at 6'.

Douglas' 4x400 relay team of Moreno, Urquijo, Salazar and Melia Skinner came in second posting a time of 4:52.

The 4x800 relay team of Maria Campoy, Urquijo, Skinner and Cormier also came in second turning in a time of 11:54.

The 4x100 relay team of Penix, Allen, Salazar and Liz Clark placed third with a 57.36.

Douglas' track coach Donna Savill said afterwards she had some athletes out with injuries and some who competed but were scaled back in their events because of their minor injuries.

Still for being this early in the season the coach said she was pleased with the times and distances her team had in only its second meet of the season.

The Lady Bulldogs will be amongst 13 other teams Friday competing in the Ted James Invitational track meet scheduled to get underway at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas High School.
