TUCSON -The Douglas Bulldogs ran into a very tough Sahuarita pitcher Wednesday who stymied the Bulldogs all afternoon in a 3-1 loss in the second round of the Sahuarita Invitational.

Jesus Lopez started the game on the hill for Douglas and went all seven innings giving up three runs off seven hits while walking three.

Sahuarita scored once in the first inning and twice in the third taking a 3-0 lead.

The Bulldogs had their chance to score in the fifth but ended the inning with the bases loaded.

Douglas finally did score in the top half of the seventh and again loaded the bases only to end the game with the bags full.

The Dogs had seven hits Wednesday. Alexis Aguirre hit 2 for 3 while Pedro Cabrera, Zaul Tapia, Jorge Renova, Fabian Ochoa and Ryan Valencia each had one hit.

"We just couldn't get anything going against their pitcher," Douglas' coach Gilbert Rojas said afterwards. "Their pitcher is considered one of the top pitchers in southern Arizona."

The Bulldogs, 2-5-1, will face a team from Arkansas on Friday in the third round of the tournament.
