Three Douglas women and BAN head to Washington, D.C.

Angelita Nunez, Elena M. Medina and Natividad Cano, along with Border Action Network, will travel to Washington DC Tuesday to discuss a humane immigration reform policy with congressional staffers.

Three Douglas women and eight other Arizonans and the staff at Border Action network will travel to Washington DC on March 13 to meet with legislators and discuss immigration reform.

This group will join more than 500 immigrants from across the country in Washington.

"We want immigration reform that is humane to all immigrants," said Elena M. Medina, one of the three Douglas women traveling to Washington. "The immigrants will offer their experience and their recommendation for a just and humane border policy."

In Washington the immigrants will form teams from various states. They will then meet with congressional staffers and hold a press conference.

The groups will emphasize six major points as part of their recommendations.

ˆ Legalization of immigrants in the US.

ˆ A new visa program for future migrant workers.

ˆ A humane and responsible border policy.

ˆ Protection of migrant rights.

ˆ Changes in immigration laws that will allows families to reunite.

ˆ A change in how the legal system deals with migrants in small law infractions.
