Dale Deffer recently joined the staff of The Daily Dispatch as a Reporter/Editorial Assistant and is new to the Douglas area.

"Often, I have thought if I lived over 100 years ago, I would have hitched my wagon to an overland train and begun a new life.
"Unable to do that, I studied western history in California and gained a degree in Journalism from the University of Arizona.
"I am especially interested in the diverse cultural points of view of the minorities of the Southwest including Native Americans, Hispanics and the struggles of women who persevered despite the hardships of relocation."
She has been employed for newspapers in Arizona and New York. Most recently, she has lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico and did free lance writing.
Other than writing, Deffer has also been a teacher.
She has a 24 year old son who graduated from college at the University of California in San Diego.
"I have roamed Cochise County and lived for a short time in a cabin in the Chiricahua Mountains studying the lifestyle of the Apache Indians. I have also traveled to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where they were taken as prisoners of war and remain today."
Deffer invites anyone who has a personal story of their family heritage in this area to contact me. History and unique stories of those who settled in this area are most interesting to me," she said.
"I am also interested in stories of the people of Douglas, Pirtleville and the Sulphur Springs Valley. Everyone has a special tale to tell."
