The Douglas Bulldogs overcame a shaky start to beat the Cholla Chargers 13-3 in six innings Friday at Copper King Stadium.

Douglas' George Hurtado slides safely into third base in the fifth inning of Douglas' conference opener with Cholla Friday. The Bulldogs rallied from a 3-1 deficit to thump the Chargers 13-3 in six innings. The Bulldogs host Desert View Tuesday at 4 at Copper King Stadium.

Kyle Cormier was the winning pitcher. He went all six innings, gave up three runs off four hits, fanned four and walked two.

The Bulldogs led briefly as Jerry Acosta scored on Cormier's sacrifice fly in the first inning giving Douglas a 1-0 lead.

Cholla came back with a three run second taking a 3-1 edge.

Jacob Tadeo tripled in the third and later scored on a passed ball as the Bulldogs pulled back to within one at 3-2.

Sammy Hurtado, pinch hitting for George Hurtado, sparked the Dogs in the fifth with a leadoff double. George Hurtado would re-enter the game and later score the tying run on Tadeo's single. Tadeo would give Douglas the lead for good scoring on Cormier's triple.

By the time the inning was over the Bulldogs had scored six runs off five hits taking an 8-3 lead.

The coach said his team struggled the second and third innings but once they got past that they did okay.
