Area residents will have the opportunity to see the energetic young musicians of the Cochise County Youth Orchestra (CCYO) as they provide some free concerts for the community. The 24-member orchestra consists of elementary through high school age students playing violins, violas and cellos.

On Saturday, April 21 at 10 a.m. the orchestra will present a 45-minute outdoor performance at the Sierra Vista Farmers Market Earth Day Celebration that will be held at the northwest corner of Wilcox and Carmichael in Sierra Vista. Admission is free and the concert will feature a wide variety of classical, blues, jazz and old-time fiddle music.

The CCYO's Spring Concert offers another chance for the public to see the orchestra. The free concert will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, at the Sierra Vista Public Library Mona Bishop Room. Non-perishable food donations will be collected before the concert to benefit the Good Neighbor Alliance. The first twenty-five people contributing five or more items will receive a 2006 Sierra Vista Fiddle Contest t-shirt. Refreshments will be provided after the concert and the audience is invited to stay and mingle with the young players.

The orchestra is also scheduled to entertain the residents of Prestige Assisted Living Center on May 1st.

Everyone is invited to come out and see firsthand the incredible talent of the young orchestra members. For more information, please log on to www.ccyo.info or call David Kaemmer at 220-1166.
