The City of Douglas will be working on various projects over the coming week. The work is being completed by the City of Douglas Public Works Department and is part of the Mayor and Council's ongoing infrastructure improvement program.

Notice of Construction Work - The City of Douglas has contracted Smithco Construction Inc. for the Sewer Rehabilitation Phase I Project which began on Monday, March 19, and should be completed by the fall of 2007. Due to the extent and scope of this work, certain streets and alleways may be closed and therefore alternate routes will be implemented. In addition, water and/or sewer services will be affected for short periods of time. We will continue to notify adjacent property owners on a weekly basis when these periods will occur. On Monday, April 9th to April 13th, construction will continue for this project between F Avenue and E Avenue Alley from 9th and 10th Streets. Please call Mr. David Gonzales, at 234-1817 if you have questions.

Also, Monday, April 9th through Friday, April 13th, 2007, crews will install curbs on 12th Street from San Antonio to Washington Avenues. Concrete work will continue on the Pan American Drainage Channel from 7th Street to 3rd Street. Crews will begin base prep work in the railroad addition area that encompasses from North I to North K Avenues from 16th to 18th Street. This week striping will begin at school crosswalks. Work will continue on the 24th Street and Louis Avenue water main extension, Lawrence Avenue sewer main replacement, as well as fire hydrant maintenance. Throughout the City there will also be other miscellaneous concrete repairs, pothole patching, and graffiti cleanup.

If you should have any problems with water and/or sewer services on the weekend or a holiday, please contact the Douglas Police Department at 364-8422 and staff on call will be dispatched to your residence. The City of Douglas asks that you please use caution while driving or walking through these construction zones. Please help keep everyone safe.
