Public invited to tour campus solar field April 18
Cochise College, Arizona Public Service (APS), and IST-Solucar, manufacturer of solar technologies, invite local residents to tour the Douglas Campus solar field as part of an Earth Day celebration scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18.
Gas prices up across the county
According to the Cochise College Center for Economic Research's latest biweekly survey of gas prices, conducted during the week of April 9, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Cochise County increased to $2.88 from $2.71 over the two-week period. According to AAA Arizona, the statewide price rose from $2.76 to $2.90. Nationally, according to the Energy Information Administration, gas prices increased from $2.61 to $2.80 during the two-week period.
Road Construction
The City of Douglas will be working on various projects over the coming week. The work is being completed by the City of Douglas Public Works Department and is part of the Mayor and Council's ongoing infrastructure improvement program.

Minutemen say border-crossers 'swarming' through Sasabe area
BISBEE - Volunteers from the Minuteman Civilian Defense Corps have spotted more than 700 illegal border crossers since beginning a vigilance campaign in Arizona two weeks ago, a spokesman for the group said Friday.
McCain wants schools, teachers held more accountable
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - Republican presidential candidate John McCain said Friday if he is elected to the White House next year, he would work to make sure that educators are held more accountable, that teachers get performance-based rewards and that students have choices in their schools.

County's job growth remains slow
According to the most recent figures from the Arizona Department of Economic Security, Cochise County lost 400 non-farm jobs in January, moving from 37,975 to 37,575. From January 2006 to January 2007, the county saw the addition of 550 new jobs, for a 12-month job growth rate of 1.5 percent.
