Douglas Mayor proclaimed April as National Library Week.

City Clerk Brenda Aguilar, left, and city librarian Glenda Bavier, right, watch was Mayor Ray Borane signed a proclamation announcing April as National Library Week.

Douglas Mayor Ray Borane has always encouraged Douglas residents to visit the Douglas Public Library.

"It is a place where children as well as adults can be stimulated from a learning environment," Borane said.

On Wednesday Borane issued a proclamation, citing April 15 though the 21 as National Library Week.

The proclamation states that:

"Our nation's public, academic, school and specialized libraries transform their communities;

"Whereas, libraries play a vital role in supporting the quality of life in their communities and librarians are trained professionals, helping people of all ages and backgrounds find and interpret the information they need to live, learn and work in the 21 Century."

The proclamation further states that libraries are a key player in the national discourse on intellectual freedom, equality of access, and narrowing the "digital divide."
