Gamma Beta Phi, a social sorority at University of Arizona South Douglas Campus, has been recognized nationally and won a Make a Difference Day Award in a program that is sponsored by USA Weekend, part of the Points of Light Organization.

Gamma Beta Phi is a national honors society with headquarters in Tennessee. A member is required to have high academics and do communiy service. A grade point average of 3.5 must be maintained in all academic work.
A membership pledge is made by all who participate which is "striving to serve humanity, character and leadership ability." Local members donated food to local shelters the House of Hope as well as to an orphanage in Mexico.
According to the rules of the contest the way to get involved was to ask what your particular community needs and answer that need. Then, fill out an entry form and mail it in to USA Weekend.
The donation was made on October 28, 2006. Judges include Paul Newman, as sole owner of Newman's Own who donates all his profits and royalties. Previous honorees who continue to excel will receive donations from the Gannett Foundation which owns newspapers throughout the country.
