Public invited to tour campus solar field April 18

Cochise College, Arizona Public Service (APS), and IST-Solucar, manufacturer of solar technologies, invite local residents to tour the Douglas Campus solar field as part of an Earth Day celebration scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18.

Located on two-thirds of an acre on the southeast corner of the campus, the solar field has been up and running since February and is the first commercial solar energy system to be used for both heating and cooling. The new solar collector system is projected to save the college heating and cooling costs and also to provide APS with environmental credits as required by the Arizona Corporation Commission's Environmental Portfolio Standard. In addition to saving money on heating and cooling, the solar field serves as a resource for educating the public about alternative energy.

Although no formal ceremony is planned, the public is welcome to tour the solar field anytime between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. April 18. For more information, call Cochise College Public Information and Media Relations at (520) 417-4138.
