Kyl-backed bill aims to reduce backlog of immigration-related court cases
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today joined Senator Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) in introducing legislation that creates 10 new permanent and temporary federal judgeships for the U.S. District Courts to deal with the backlog of immigration-related cases. Under the definitions in the bill, Arizona would receive five of the 10 new judgeships - four permanent and one temporary.

County's job growth remains slow
According to the most recent figures from the Arizona Department of Economic Security, Cochise County lost 400 non-farm jobs in January, moving from 37,975 to 37,575. From January 2006 to January 2007, the county saw the addition of 550 new jobs, for a 12-month job growth rate of 1.5 percent.

Cochise County Youth Orchestra's performs April 21 in SV
Area residents will have the opportunity to see the energetic young musicians of the Cochise County Youth Orchestra (CCYO) as they provide some free concerts for the community. The 24-member orchestra consists of elementary through high school age students playing violins, violas and cellos.

Leonard's art at Gallery
The exhibit of paintings, drawings and photography of Lori Leonard will be on display through May 17. Lori photographs the natural beauty hidden within everyday screens of nature: the brilliant purples and finks found on the green grasshopper, the corals within the browns and tans of a horned toad, the rounded tense muscles of a bull standing alert. Painting with acrylics, and sometimes using Adobe Photoshop, allows Lori to widen the boundaries of creativity in her artwork. The goals of her artwork are to please the eye and the soul through color combinations, movement or quietude, and to have work enjoyable and affordable to all. Love of Music concerts to feature French horn, cello, piano
The next "For the Love of Music" concerts at the Bisbee Woman's Club are scheduled for Saturday, April 28 at 8 pm and Sunday, April 29 at 3 pm. Rose French (horn), Zoran Stilin (cello) and Lynne Haeseler (piano) will perform trios by Beethoven and Brahms, as well as duos and a solo of French music.

I learned years ago that one of the best ways to have a healthy diet and save money on food is to cook at home. Eating out frequently wreaks havoc on the waistline and budget, so our family eats out as an occasional treat rather than a weekly habit.
