SIERRA VISTA - An illegal immigrant was arrested Tuesday night after leading several police agencies on a high-speed chase from Fry Boulevard nearly to Tombstone, according to Sierra Vista police.

The chase began when Ismael Soto Castillo, 41, of Sinoloa, Mexico, allegedly ran the red light at Fry and Coronado Drive, almost hitting a Sierra Vista police car. Police said he then reportedly had run the light at Seventh Street and Fry, striking a vehicle, which followed the suspect vehicle until police began chasing it moments later.

Castillo also reportedly hit a second vehicle on Highway 90 near Central Avenue. None of the people in either vehicle struck by Castillo's vehicle were injured, Sierra Vista police Sgt. Jim Adams said.

As police chased the vehicle east on Highway 90 and out of town, U.S. Border Patrol agents, Tombstone Marshal's Office personnel and Cochise County sheriff's deputies joined in the chase. The pursuit took a turn toward Tombstone on Highway 80 at the junction, and Tombstone officers placed a tire-deflation device, which the vehicle drove over and went off the road at about mile post 320, Adams said.

Castillo was taken into custody at 10:02 p.m., charged with felony flight from police, reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident.

Four other illegal immigrants were in the vehicle Castillo was driving. They were turned over to Border Patrol agents. One of them was apparently injured when the vehicle left the road, according to Wednesday's Sierra Vista police report summary.

Castillo's bond is set at $30,000, according to the Sheriff's Office.
