College program trains inmates for fire crews

Twenty inmates at the Arizona State Prison Complex (ASPC) in Douglas are preparing for life after incarceration by training to work as firefighters. Although the training program offered by Cochise College is not new, it fits the bill for an Arizona Department of Corrections initiative to reduce recidivism by engaging inmates in work-based education programs.

County's job growth remains slow
According to the most recent figures from the Arizona Department of Economic Security, Cochise County lost 400 non-farm jobs in January, moving from 37,975 to 37,575. From January 2006 to January 2007, the county saw the addition of 550 new jobs, for a 12-month job growth rate of 1.5 percent.

The next "For the Love of Music" concerts at the Bisbee Woman's Club are scheduled for Saturday, April 28 at 8 pm and Sunday, April 29 at 3 pm. Rose French (horn), Zoran Stilin (cello) and Lynne Haeseler (piano) will perform trios by Beethoven and Brahms, as well as duos and a solo of French music.

College art department to host end-of-year celebration
