The Cochise College TRIO Student Support Services/Avanzando Program proudly presented a workshop to help educate students on how to "Dress for Success".

The workshop was held at the Cochise College Cafeteria on April 16, 2007 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Admission was free and open to all students as well as staff and visitors.

Through the workshop students got to meet International Beauty Consultant Carlos Valenzuela and learn about what's happening in the world of fashion and how your outer appearance can reflect negativity or lack of professionalism when seeking a job. The workshop was directed by guest host, International Beauty Consultant Carlos Valenzuela who is the owner of Tesoro Beauty Boutique in Douglas.

The event was organized by Rhonda Lane, Director of Avanzando and Jennifer Bailey, Avanzando Administrative Assistant along with the help of students and supporting staff.

Through a drawing, six Avanzando student members were selected for a makeover that would better prepare them for the professional world. The Avanzando Program is currently available only at Cochise College-Douglas campus and over 100 students are participating in the program.

Through the "Dress for Success" workshop Cochise College students learned about the importance of first impressions and personal appearance when searching for jobs. Students were also introduced with techniques on how to land a job, how to make a good impression, and how to prevent fashion and interview disasters.

Cochise College sophomore and Avanzando student Guillermo Galindo said, "I now value my outer appearance because it reflects my personality, professionalism, and can truly reflect how I feel inside."

Lizette Perez, second year Avanzando student said, "I am grateful for this workshop because I have learned that today's appearance can define the jobs of tomorrow. Therefore, it is very important to represent yourself in a professional manner at all times, especially when interviewing for a job.

Special guest and presenter Carlos Valenzuela said, "I was very excited when Cochise College invited me to participate in an event that could help students be better individuals and professionals. I am also very glad to return to Douglas and feel I can be an asset towards improving the appearance, emotional well being and confidence of people who I encounter thanks to my training and techniques as a beauty consultant."
