The Cochise College Art Department will host a primitive pit fire, potluck and barbecue beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 3 at the Douglas Campus. The event corresponds with Beltane, an ancient holiday celebrating the end of winter and the coming of summer and a plentiful harvest.

The U.S. Forest Service contributed 20 cords of wood for the event, which also is the Art Department's end-of-year potluck and barbecue. Meat, buns and condiments will be provided. The barbecue begins at 5 p.m., with the pit fire to be lit at 7 p.m., just before the sun sets. Musicians will perform campfire songs on the acoustic guitar and mandolin.
The event takes place behind the Art Department, Building 900, on the northeast side of campus, and will be staffed by the Douglas Fire Department. It is open to students, faculty, staff and the general public. For more information, call (520) 417-4025.
