School is out and the hot weather is here. A fun way to enjoy the summer is to hang out at one of the two swimming pools Douglas has to offer.

With hot days predicted ahead, Douglas youth splash around at the municipal pool. The City of Ddouglas offers two swimming pools, the Aquatic Center and the municipal pool.

For the summer there is open swimming at the Douglas Municipal Swimming Pool at the 8th Street Park. There is a kiddie pool as well as an adult pool. Children under the age of six must be accompanied by a responsible person age 14 or older.

Pool hours are from 1p.m. to 5p.m. and costs $1 for youths; $1 for senior citizens and $1.50 for adults.

On Fridays swimming is free at the municipal pool for Douglas youth age 17 and under. The free swimming is made possible through the Arizona Physicians' generous funding. The free swimming is available from 1p.m. to 5p.m. June 8 through Aug. 3.

On July 4th the pool staff will host the Family Fun Day at the municipal pool. Families can enjoy free swimming, games, contests, prizes and refreshments. The event will take place on Wednesday, July 4 from 1p.m. to 5p.m.

As the pool closes for the season, the staff invites the community to come to their Luau party at the municipal pool. Games, prizes and fun will be available on July 28 from 1p.m. to 5p.m.

Douglas Aquatic Center

Although there is no open swimming at the Aquatic Center, it does provide a host of other activities.

For those exercise enthusiasts who enjoy lap swimming, the pool is available Monday through Friday from 5a.m. to 9 a.m. and then again at 3p.m. to 9 p.m. On Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The fees are $1 for youths; $1 for senior citizens and $1.50 for adults. Water aerobics is available Monday, Wednesdays, Fridays from 6p.m. to 7p.m. Enrollment is limited to call early. The first class is free. A punch pass is $20 for 12 entries.

Swimming lessons are available for beginners to competitive advanced skills. Call the Aquatic Center for more information on skill levels and times at 364-8846.

The center also has a Junior Lifeguard program that educates youth in lifeguard techniques. The program is for youth ages 11 through 14. Cost is $25 per person.

If you're planning a birthday, picnic or a fun filled day, the pool is available for rent. And for those interested in indoor racquetball, there two courts available. The cost is $1.50 per person. The hours are 5 a.m. to 9a.m. Mondays through Friday and from 3p.m. to 9p.m. On Saturdays from 6a.m. to 11 a.m.
