Douglas police are continuing their investigation involving the suspicious death of an under aged Douglas girl, police authorities said.

Douglas police secure the perimeter of a 4th Street home, where authorities investigate a suspicious death.

Monica Gastelum, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:48 p.m. Tuesday.

Gastelum was found in a bedroom at 623 4th Street.

At about 9:33 p.m. Tuesday police were informed about an unresponsive young female that was found in the bedroom of that home.

The police were escorted into the bedroom and found Gastelum lying on the floor next to the bed, said Marcus Gonzales, the spokesman for the Douglas Police Department.

Police checked for vital signs and immediately began CPR, Gonzales said.

Shortly after, the paramedics arrived and continued with the CPR but were unsuccessful in reviving the young girl.
