Douglas' 11's advance to championship game

Douglas' 11-year old all-stars have earned a rematch with Nogales for the District 8 title after beating Bisbee 12-6 Monday in Rio Rico.

Douglas will face Nogales tonight at 5 p.m. but must beat Nogales again tomorrow night in order to secure the District 8 crown and advance to next weeks state tournament in Phoenix.

Nogales no-hit Douglas 3-0 last week in second round action at the tournament.

On Monday the Douglas All-Stars eliminated Bisbee 12-6.

Bryan Lomeli, Marco Salcido, David Hurtado and Victor Campoy each threw for Douglas this game.

After a scoreless first inning Douglas opened up with a seven run second and then added run in the third taking an 8-0 lead.

Bisbee scored all six of its runs in the bottom half of the third pulling within two. Douglas responded with a run in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth winning by six.

Chris Cruz hit 2 for 2 for Douglas while Nick Ortega was 3 for 5; CJ Estrella 2 for 4, David Hurtado 1 for 3 with a solo home run and Tyler Arvayo 1 for 2.

On Saturday Douglas beat San Pedro 11-4 behind the pitching of Estrella and Lomeli.

Douglas trailed 3-0; tied the game at 3-3 and then used an eight run fourth to blow the game open.

Arvayo hit 1 for 2 with a triple; Estrella 2 for 3, Hurtado 2 for 3 and Lomeli 2 for 2.

At the 9-10 year old all-star tournament in Douglas Nogales advanced to Thursday's championship game after beating Rio Rico 8-2 Monday in semifinal action.

Nogales led 1-0 going into the bottom of the fifth when Rio Rico committed a series of mental mistakes allowing Nogales to rally for seven runs.

In two elimination games Willcox beat Sierra Vista American 9-1 and Bisbee shutout Sierra Vista National 6-0.

Willcox and Bisbee will meet tonight at 6 p.m. in an elimination game. That winner will face Rio Rico Wednesday with that winner facing Nogales Thursday.

The Douglas 9-10 year old All-Stars were eliminated from the tournament in Douglas after losing 5-1 to the Bisbee All-Stars Saturday at the 8th Street Park.

Blaze Rose was the losing pitcher.

Jose Aristiga, Alexis Selig and Fernando Chacon each hit 2 for 3 for Douglas. Johnny Monarrez was 1 for 3.

Douglas was the third team to be eliminated from the tournament finishing with a 1-2 record.

At the juniors tournament in Sierra Vista Douglas thumped Campstone 17-0 Monday and will face Rio Rico tonight in another elimination game.

Details from Monday's game were not available at press time.

On Saturday Douglas lost to Nogales 7-2.

Arrin Acosta was the losing pitcher.

Nogales used a three run fourth and a three run fifth taking a 6-1 lead.

Diego Resendiz hit 1 for 2 for Douglas while Estevan Daniel, Jason Sanez and Spencer Grijalva each were 1 for 3. Daniel had a solo home run in the sixth.

On Friday Douglas beat Bisbee 10-1 as Daniel was the winning pitcher going the distance while giving up one run off one hit while fanning seven.

Daniel and Sanez each hit 2 for 3, Miguel Romo was 1 for 3 and Luis Morales 1 for 1.

At the majors tournament in Nogales Douglas defeated Campstone 5-0 Saturday. Details from this game were not turned into The Daily Dispatch by the Douglas coaches.

Douglas faces Sierra Vista American today in the semifinals.
