Parade awards and small, large business awards announced

Every year the Douglas Chamber of Commerce votes for the best in large and small business in town.


This year the Small Business of the Year went to FRV Metals & Recycling. The Large Business of the Year went to Maddux & sons, Inc.

These two companies will be honored at a chamber banquet on July 28 at the Club 3000.

The guest speaker will be Gabrielle Giffords.

Cocktails will begin at 6p.m. The dinner will follow at 6:30 and the presentation of the awards will be at 7p.m.

From 8p.m. to 11p.m. there will be music and dance.

The cost of the tickets are $25 each or $45 per couple. The tickets are available through the chamber office at 345 16th Street.

In other news, the City of Douglas Recreation Center announced the 2007 Fourth of July parade winners.

First Place: Southeastern Arizona Medical Center.

Second Place: Alice Pitts Music Students

Third Place: Christmal Life Center.

Fourth Place: Georges Upholstery

Fifth Place: Diamond Rubies Softball Team.

The trophies will be given out at the next Douglas City Council in August.

Trophy winners can retrieve their awards before the August meeting by calling the recreation center at 362-2496.
