The Citizens of the Year and the Large and Small Business winners will be honored Saturday, July 28, at the Club 3000.

The festivities will go from 6p.m. to 11p.m.

Tickets for the event are $25 per person or $45 for a couple. For information on tickets call Evelyn Arvizu at 227-7711. Tickets can also be bought at the door at the Club 3000.

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will be the keynote speakers at Saturday's event.

Mike Ortega and Ana Maria Rivera were selected as the 2007 Man and Woman of the Year respectively.

Mike Ortega was the city manager for the City of Douglas for 12 years. He oversaw the operations of the city, including its maintenance and budget. During his tenure he implemented a host of projects such as the Aquatic Center, the Linear Park, the Airport Park and the Visitor's Center.

He had a long-standing commitment to improving the city's infrastructure and well as improving the quality of life for the community.

Ortega is now the county administrator for Cochise County.

Ana Maria Rivera has been a 30-year volunteer for the Douglas Association of Retarded Citizens (DARC). She donates her time there because she feels she is doing something good for the special people at the DARC center.

FRV Metal and Maddux and Sons were selected as the Small and Large Business of the Year.

FRV Metals, nominated as the small business, is owned by Joe and Sonia Walsh, and ever since they moved into the community, they've come to love Douglas. FRV Metals is a recycling company that recycles metals from landfills and transfer stations. The Walsh's said they are proud they can contribute to the community and to the environment through their business.

Maddux and Sons is the Large Business nominated for its contribution to the community, especially for its many donations to various organizations throughout town. Maddux and Sons handles sand, gravel, readi-mix, road base and concrete and can transport hundreds of thousands of tons of sand and gravel in a given year. This company was started in the late 1930's and has been handed down from father to son throughout the generations.
