With global warming and hybrid cars so often in the news, nothing is more exciting than being environmentally friendly.

Sonia and Joe Walsh of FRV Metals

And FRV Metals, a recycling company, is doing its part in keeping the environment clean.

Joe and Sonia Walsh, owners of FRV Metals, are truly concerned about the environment and one of the ways to keep it clean is to recycle.

"A successful business is dependent upon a healthy community and a healthy community should be supported by its businesses," said Joe Walsh.

Sonia and Joe are adamant about being good corporate citizens of the community and want to give back to it as much as possible.

Joe has been actively speaking with members of the community about removing metals and other recyclables from the landfills and transfer stations.

"If we can pull out these metals and other recyclables from landfills and transfer stations, it will save the city and county a lot of money," he said.

For Joe, it is a win-win situation for the community and the environment.

Joe is proud that FRV has kept over 70 tons of metal out of the landfills.

The next step for Joe and Sonia is to add cardboard recycling to their list of recyclable goods.

After moving to Douglas, the couple is excited to be in this community.

"There are a lot of opportunities in Douglas. I think that sometimes people don't realize what a great resource they have here," Joe said. "As a newcomer to Douglas, we think the people here comprise one of the friendliest communities in the west.

"We believe for a community to be successful, it has to be healthy. So we are here to be involved and supportive of the community. Our lives are already better for moving to Douglas, we love it here."
