BISBEE - A Mexican man who was arrested in Palominas in May and charged with human smuggling pleaded guilty to a lesser included offense in Cochise County Superior Court on Monday.

Arizona retail food prices up 8 percent in second quarter '07
Phoenix, Ariz., July 18, 2007 - Retail food prices at the supermarket increased in the second quarter of 2007, according to the latest American Farm Bureau Federation Marketbasket Survey. The informal survey shows the total cost of 16 basic grocery items in the second quarter of 2007 was $42.95, up about 4 percent or $1.61 from the first quarter of 2007, while the Arizona survey was $48.62, up about 8 percent or $3.82 from the first quarter of 2007, when the first quarterly Arizona Marketbasket survey was conducted. For the last 21 years Arizona Farm Bureau has conducted an annual Thanksgiving Holiday Marketbasket.

Youth orchestra looking for string players
The Cochise County Youth Orchestra (CCYO) is now welcoming violin, viola, cello and string bass players to join in the fun next semester, which runs from Aug. 14 through Dec. 11, 2007. Students from elementary to high school age who have at least one year of playing experience and are currently taking private lessons, or who pass an audition, are eligible to join this energetic and enthusiastic group of players. Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays from 4 to 5:30 pm at Calvary's Rock Church, 231 N. Canyon Drive in Sierra Vista. Tuition is $105 for the 18-week semester.

Camp-y food makes outdoors even better
The late Teddy Roosevelt, a "gargantuan eater" (as a new book describes him), went on a weekend camping trip to Yosemite in 1903 and brought along two cooks. Most of us loading our backpacks and heading out for a weekend in the woods don't have that luxury. Most of us cook for ourselves, and what we tend to cook is something freeze-dried, instant, processed or otherwise: a poor excuse for food.
