Published/Last Modified on Friday, August 3, 2007 4:21 PM MDT

The City of Douglas experienced a category 100 year storm Wednesday, August 1, causing flooding throughout the city. Several city buildings and facilities suffered damage.

The City employees are actively working on clearing washes and drains, are preparing sand bags and taking every precaution to minimize additional flooding.

The safety of our citizens is of utmost concern and we urge you to avoid all flooded areas and do not try to drive or walk through flooded roads or paths. Find an alternate route and please watch for downed power lines.

"We urge you to familiarize yourself with local stations for forecasts and if you are in need of sand bags, please do not wait until the storm hits. Prepare yourself ahead of time by picking them up at the City Public Works Facility - 2701 North Sulphur Springs Road - 805-4077 from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. After office hours, please call the Douglas Police Department at 364-8422 and they will locate the appropriate personnel.," said city staff.
