BISBEE - With only a possible $86,658 in state Local Transportation Assistance Funds to spread among all the needed transportation systems in the county, organizations that provide such transportation may have a difficult time meeting their budget.

Catholic Community Services' Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program provided free tax preparation services to more than 300 low-income families last year, bringing $500, 000 into the local economy. These families saved approximately $53,000 in preparation fees and were able to get their refunds in as little as 7 to 10 days. Volunteers are needed this year in order to serve more families, bring more dollars back to Cochise County, and assist families with free financial planning services. Young fiddlers to participate in fiddle contest
Ellen Whitehead of McNeal, a member of the Cochise County Youth Orchestra, rehearses with the group in preparation for their lunchtime performance of fiddles tunes at the Sierra Vista Fiddle Contest. Many young orchestra members will also be competing in the youth divisions this year. Area residents are invited to attend the 3rd Annual Sierra Vista Fiddle Contest on Sept. 22, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Veterans' Memorial Park. Admission is free. All are welcome to bring a lawn chair or blanket and be prepared for an exciting day of great music featuring the "Orange Blossom Special Blowout Competition." Fiddlers from all over the Southwest will compete for trophies and $3,000 in cash prizes. Buena Bands will provide food concessions and there will be many items for raffle, including two acoustic/electric guitars. Proceeds from the contest benefit the Cochise County Youth Orchestra.
