Douglas' third year swim coach Michelle Cardenas said the season opener was a good experience for her 23 swimmers - 11 of which are first year swimmers.

"I think it opened their eyes," she said. "We had been working in practice on what to expect and I think we did a pretty good job of pretending to act like we knew what we were doing."

Once again Coach Cardenas says she does not have the depth other teams have and that's a factor in the final scores.

The coach sees a lot of potential in her young swimmers but admits its going to take a lot of work and some serious commitment.

"You get what you work for not what you wish for," she said referring to a quote she read in a book. "I thought these kids did well considering our lack of depth."

The Bulldog and Lady Bulldog swimmers host Desert Christian Thursday at 4 p.m. in their home opener at the Douglas Aquatic Center.
