Cochise College will present a free lunch-hour lecture Tuesday and Wednesday about Casas Grandes and the potters of Mata Ortiz. Attendees will learn about Paquimé, near modern-day Casas Grandes, and have the chance to sign up for a trip to the region that is planned Friday, Oct. 26 to Sunday, Oct. 28.

The free lunch-hour lectures take place at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 in the Student Union on the Douglas Campus and at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17 in Room 313 on the Sierra Vista Campus. They are presented by Rebecca Orozco, director of the Cochise College Center for Southwest Studies, who also will guide the tour.

The trip to Chihuahua, Mexico, provides insights into the culture and history of the region and takes guests to Paquimé and on tours of the pottery workshops in Mata Ortiz. The cost of the trip is $260 per person, double occupancy, and includes transportation from the Douglas Campus; two nights of accommodations; breakfasts and lunches; entry fees; guides; and tours, programs and lectures. It is the last college trip to Mexico for which passports will not be required. Single occupancy costs an additional $35.
