Celebrate the Holidays & Harvest at Bisbee Farmers Market’s finale

Published/Last Modified on Friday, October 26, 2007 5:05 PM MDT

The Bisbee Farmers Market will close its 2007 season with a Holiday & Harvest Festival on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon in Vista Park.  It will feature a Halloween Costume Contest for kids of all ages with child, customer and vendor prizes and a kids’ costume parade around the market.

This is also the last chance to buy the unique hand-made arts and crafts (Navajo and other jewelry, decoupage switch plate covers, designer hand bags with lots of pockets, dog treats, herbal health and beauty products, tie-dye clothing, bead work, plants and alpaca products) from the market’s numerous creative vendors.  Produce vendors will have pumpkins galore for holiday baking and decorating.  Bisbee Homeless Shelter will sell red chile ristras from a local farm.

There will also be a pie making demonstration under the special events tree by Master Pie man Alfonso Bastidas of Bisbee’s Favorite Pies at 10 a.m.  The Jones Gang Family Band, with its state champion young fiddle players from Sierra Vista, will play lively traditional music.  Mexican food for breakfast and lunch will be offered by La Carreta including great breakfast burritos and shrimp tacos.

There will also be a raffle featuring 20 donated vendor products or gift baskets.  Gary Foss of Oaks of the Wild Wild West has donated a Texas Red Oak tree, San Ysidro Farm a $10 gift certificate for healthy meats, herbalist Judy Carter, a luxury gift basket including Eucalyptus Oil, Bath Soak and a Mandarin Neroli balm from her Planet Earth Remedies and KBRP radio a gift basket with a “Spirit of Bisbee” CD, a station T-shirt and a jar of Bisbee honey from the hives of one of the DJs. Raffle proceeds will enable the market to make needed improvements and meet expenses.  Stop by the raffle canopy across from the info booth and buy a set of tickets (6 for $5 or 12 for $10) and then have fun placing a ticket in the containers in front of the items of your choice.  The raffle drawing at 11:45 a.m. will include twenty tickets, one from each container.
