Free computer classes offered at Douglas Library

Do you want to learn how to use Excel or PowerPoint? Or maybe you want to improve your Internet skills.


Staring Oct. 29 the Douglas Library is offering free computer classes to the public.

The classes will be held on Mondays at 7p.m. and on Fridays at 5p.m. Since there are only 15 public computers at the library, the class will be limited to 15 students per session.

If a participant owns a laptop and has wireless capabilities, though, he or she can join the class.

The first session will be on the fundamentals of the computer, such as understanding the hard drive and Random Access Memory (RAM).

The second session will be on the fundamentals of the Internet. The third session will be on the basics of email and the fourth session will be on advanced email techniques.

The class is open to all members of the community, said Victoria Yarbrough, the librarian for the Douglas Library.

“These classes offer a great opportunity for people to learn a new computer program or to brush up on their skills,” she said.

Some of the programs the participants will learn are Excel, Word, Publisher and PowerPoint. The classes will be taught by  Clyne G. H. Namuo, a Cochise College instructor.

The students will also get college credit, Yarbrough said.
