New councilman to be appointed to Ward 4

A new councilman, new breathalyzers and the Government Plaza will be some of the topics discussed at Wednesday’s City Council meeting.


The study session will be held at 2:30p.m. and the regular meeting will be held at 4p.m.

A special meeting will beheld at 3:30p.m.

All meetings will be held at the Council Chambers at 425 10th Street.

On Wednesday the council will discuss appointing Ray Shelton as councilman for Ward 4 to replace former Councilman Mike Gomez.

The council will also be discussing the purchase of three portable breath-testing units for Arizona’s 2008 highway safety plan.

In other action the council will discuss:

√ Proposing a permanent adjustment to the 1979-1980 base expenditure limitation of the City of Douglas.

√ An annexation agreement between the city and Lenard and Linda Maddux in order to facilitate the annexation of the North Golf Course Road area.

√ Approving the application for historic preservation Heritage Funds to restore the original façade of the Phelps Dodge Mercantile for the Government Plaza.
