Mexican Consulate in Douglas opens account for Tabasco relief fund

Days of rain in Tabasco, Mexico, has flooded the rivers and has inundated the area, affecting more than a million people.


All the crops have been destroyed, livestock has been killed and most of the state’s business sectors have been affected, said Governor Andres Granier in a press release. Granier is the state’s governor.

As a result, the Mexican Consulate in Douglas has opened a bank account for anyone interested in donating money to the relief fund.

“With regards to the showings of solidarity with the people affected by the severe floods in the Mexican state of Tabasco, almost one million (half of the population of the state) most of who have lost their homes and businesses and are now in need of emergency assistance,” the Mexican Consulate said this week.

The Mexican Foreign Ministry has opened two bank accounts in the United States where deposits can be made :

Mexican President Felipe Calderon said in a press release: “I would exhort you to act with unity, to help Tabasco with bravery and solidarity as we have done on other occassions of disaster and tragedy.”
