For 20 years he lived with the pain of being sexual abused when he was 10-years-old.

Today, the victim, whose name was not released to the media, is resting a little more peacefully now that his attacker was arrested and jailed Tuesday in the Fayette County Detention Center.

Kerry McJunkins, 38, a former Douglas resident, was arrested in Kentucky for allegedly sexually abusing a 10-year-old Douglas boy.

The abuse carried on for about four years.

A hearing is set today to determine whether McJunkins will be extradited to Arizona.

McJunkins’ alleged assaults on the boy began in 1987 when the boy was a student in a private school in Douglas, the victim’s family said.

McJunkins was 18 when he began his sexual attacks.

“Everything I’ve done in my life has been affected by what he has done to me,” the victim told WKYT, a news station in Lexington, Ky. “I was threatened and I was scared, and it carries over you when you’re young and it carries with you until your older but at one point I realized he couldn’t hurt me any longer.”

The victim came to this realization in 2006 and decided to come forward with his story so that others who may have been similarly assaulted will also come forward.

" McJunkins pled guilty in a plea agreement to two felony counts of attempted child molestaion. McJunkins was sentenced to five years in prison and lifetime probation. McJunkins was ALSO ordered to register as a sex offender. The maximum prison sentence would have been five years for each count he pled guilty to. In a study of the laws of the state of Arizona, the ‘attempted’ plea is considered - in its intent - to be an admission of guilt, without a trial becoming necessary. The state of Arizona has the plea agreement of felony ‘attempted’ molestation to remove any chance of a guilty person being able to escape penalty and punishment. McJunkins’ wife, under questioning, admitted her husband’s guilt. McJunkins’ attorney acknowledged McJunkins’ guilt and McJunkins himself admitted his guilt before and to the victims, both young men and their parents. If this would have gone to trial, there is no doubt in our minds that he would have been convicted and sentenced to twenty years to life in prison. Although the letter of the law is attempted child molestation and endangerment, the intent of the law is to cause the accused to admit their guilt. In the court hearing today, this was clearly seen. Attempted molestation was not dealt with in the court. What was dealt with was McJunkins’ own admission that he had molested innocent 10 year old boys and that he was completely wrong in what he had done. "
